A year in verse and image
March - The bridge to Spring
In our day to day lives we put our faith in various built structures, bridges are a good example of this and if well maintained they are strong and almost timeless. Two of the pictures show local bridges, the first is the beautiful little packhorse bridge near Pickering and the second is the parkland bridge in Thornton le Dale. Both have been trusted and travelled over for many years. The rainbow shape of the bridges gives confidence that we will be raised up above all danger. The third picture shows perennial Primroses, a vibrant reminder that Winter is faithfully followed by Spring.
Faith is a gentle sounding word carrying immense strength, power and several strands of meaning. For Christians complete faith in the life story and teachings of Christ shapes our lives. Faith is like a bridge, step on the bridge and you will find Christ coming to meet you from the other side.
Hebrews 11. v.1
'Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.'
Hebrews 11. v 6
'And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.'
1 Peter. v. 8-9
'Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.'
February - Hope
Hope is a bright word full of promise and expectation; for Christians hope also looks forward with confidence towards God's promises. The strength of that hope is rooted in God's faithfulness. The pictures of Snowdrops, Daffodils in bud, Aconites and Rhododendron buds were all taken locally during this bleak February, with the intention of capturing pictures of life after winter. These heralds of Spring reassure us of the changing seasons and remind us of hope rooted in faith.
Romans 15 v. 13
'May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.'
Romans 12 v. 12
'Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.'
Jeremiah 29 v.11
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
Verses and Pictures for January
A text is a few sentences, a little window of information taken from the Bible which you can turn over and over in your mind like a pebble in a stream. It can stand alone or it can be teased out in the context of the whole chapter. This is your choice. A picture helps you think more deeply about a text allowing you to linger while the words sink into your mind and memory. The first three texts have imagery of streams and the pictures are of the local streams in Thornton le Dale. If you come upon the scenes you might remember the text too.
Isaiah 43 verses 1b - 2 'Fear not for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters I will be with you and when you pass through the rivers they will not sweep over you.'
Amos 5. verse 24 'Let justice roll on like a river and righteousness like a never ending stream.'
Psalm 1. verse 3 (A faithful and Godly man) 'He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.'
